We hope you had a lovely break with your children, everyone has come back ready for a new term of fun and learning. There are a few events lined up already for families this term so please keep an eye out on communication from the school.
I would like to draw your attention to the information below requesting your attendance for our Parent Information Evening: Mathematics. Please lock into your calendars – NEXT WEEK Tuesday 28 July, at 6:00pm at Takapuna Primary School. We are incredibly fortunate to have arranged Mathematics expert Marie Hurst hosting a special session for our parents!
This will be a highly valuable evening filled with practical insights into your child’s learning. Please see information below.

It has been a wonderful week of celebrating Matariki this week. We have had classroom learning, break time Matariki activities, open whānau afternoon and our fabulous Kapa Haka perform! Tomorrow, we will conclude Matariki week with a whole school assembly at 9.15am.
|

This week we are learning about Matariki and 6D made wishes/goals stars for the year ahead. Wishing on the star Hiwa-i-te-rangi, the wishing star.
Our wishes/goals were; to swim fast, to learn to read, to learn to ride scooters and to be independent writers. There were many many more.
We made our wishing star and we are working hard to make it come true.

TPS Sports Calendar
TPS Run Club starts on Wednesday 29th July (Week 2). All runners need to register to run. Registrations are Here
Netball North Harbour continues into Term 3. The last game is on 18th/19th August.
Term 3
TPS Schoolwide Cross Country
Friday 14th August- All classes will begin building running stamina from Week 1 of Term 3. Please make sure that your child wears suitable running shoes.
After School Netball begins on Tuesday 21st July/Wednesday 22nd July and the last game is on 18th/19th August.
Semester 2 Basketball – 4/5th August for Year 2-6 teams- Registrations are closed for Year 2-4 teams. Year 5-6 players are still needed for Takapuna Wizards, if you are keen for your child to play, please click on this link here and you will find out more information about Semester 2 Basketball.
Takapuna Tipu Football Tournament for Year 5-6 is on Friday 21st August – registration here for Year 5 boys only as the other teams are full.

TPS recently launched an alumni group on Facebook. We’re just in the beginning stages and we need someone who can assist with the growth of the group by attracting members. The objectives of the TPS Alumni Network are:
- Build a database of TPS alumni
- Develop connections with TPS’s current staff and students
- Enhance current students’ understanding of TPS’s history
- Offer fundraising opportunities for alumni to invest so TPS can continue its high-quality educational standards
- Promote TPS’s brand in the community
- Host alumni events
- Begin the path towards TPS’s 150th reunion in 2029
- Create an online archive of TPS class photos, memorabilia etc.

Did you know that bottle tops and container lids can no longer be recycled in your curbside bins?
But the good news is, they can still be recycled and our school is a collection point!
Here are few tips:

Art Room Donation Request
Our learners are about to begin an exciting stitchery unit in the Art Department, where they will explore a range of textile skills including embroidery, threading, sewing on buttons, and, for some classes, creating sock puppets.
To help make these projects possible, we would greatly appreciate donations of:
- Clean, old socks of any size, colour, or pattern (mismatched socks are perfect!)
- Cotton sewing thread
- Embroidery thread (stranded cotton)
- Spare buttons are also welcome if you have any to share.
Pre-loved materials are ideal, and socks with small holes or signs of wear are absolutely fine, provided they have been washed.
If you have any of these items tucked away at home and no longer need them, we would be very grateful for your donation. Please send them to school(with a note to go to Claire’s room) with your child over the next few weeks.
Thank you for supporting our Art programme and helping our learners develop their creativity, sewing skills, and confidence through hands-on making.

An investment in our students
Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.
Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government.
The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.
We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.
To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.

Back in 2004, computers were fairly new in schools. This is what they looked like. They would be very slow connecting to the internet once you turned them on, around 5 minutes or so!
Our school was lucky enough to have just ONE in the Library for all students to use!

Since 2015, Kelly Club NZ has thrown its support behind an incredible cause. Cure Kids is a remarkable organisation with a singular goal: to improve the health and well-being of children in New Zealand. They fund groundbreaking research to find cures and treatments for diseases that affect our youngest tamariki and Red Nose Day is their flagship fundraising event where we, as a partner, play a vital role to help raise funds for Cure Kids, so that they can continue to help the lives of young children.
