Attendance Management

At TPS, we have always been committed to promoting regular attendance. We recognise its direct link to student achievement and a learner’s sense of belonging within the school community, and as such its overall impact on student wellbeing.

Since the start of 2026, our Attendance Management Plan has been updated to  align with the STAR (School Attendance Response) framework provided by the Ministry of Education.  It explicitly outlines what should happen when students do not attend school and these directives include notifying whānau each time their child’s attendance crosses one of the predetermined thresholds on the STAR framework.

The impact for our families is that you will receive attendance letters from us when your child’s absences in any one term reach any of the attendance thresholds. We acknowledge that there are many reasons why a child might be absent from school including illness and bereavement, and that those are challenging times for a family. Unfortunately, we are obligated to let you know about any thresholds crossed, regardless of the reason for your child’s absences or whether you have followed the correct processes for keeping us informed. 

Please also bear in mind that we are unable to approve leave for your child travelling during term time. 

Please reach out to us anytime if you are experiencing challenges with getting your child to school so that we can all work together to support you and your family. Your child’s teacher is a good first port of call or you may prefer to speak with one of our Deputy Principals to make a plan together. NAISS (North Auckland Integrated School Support Service) is also available to support us and our families with lifting attendance so that our tamariki can thrive.
