Kia ora whānau, 

We have been focusing on our school values this term, with each week being a different value. Any encouragement and support you can give your child is much appreciated. This week, has been all about intergrity!

Every day brings a new opportunity to learn, grow, and support one another. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making our school such a warm and inspiring place to be. 

Just a friendly reminder as wet weather sets in, please be mindful of children and families crossing the neighbouring roads during pick up and drop off. The school carparks do get very busy and we appreciate your support.

Maths Evening

We had a fantastic turnout for last week’s Maths Evening with around 70 parents! A huge thank you to all the parents and caregivers who made the time to come along. Your active involvement and enthusiasm make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey.

Here is some feedback, we appreciate you taking the time to share with us:

I really enjoyed the games! I am looking forward to playing with my daughter. It was also a really interesting overview of the maths curriculum so I have an idea what my daughter needs to become familiar with.

I found the physical maths games ideas excellent, that were not reliant on sitting at a screen. These help immensely with being able to engage fully with my daughter while learning.

I’d like to say thank you – I was floundering trying to teach my daughter maths at home as it is not my strongest subject! This evening has given me a great toolbox and some fantastic direction to enable me to support my daughter at home. Thank you for arranging it.

Congratulations to all those learners who received the

Responsibility token last week.

This week we are focusing on Integrity. Integrity means being honest. Doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Doing the right thing even when it is hard, and doing the right thing even when it means we have to own up to a mistake.

I am looking forward to seeing who gets the Integrity award this week. 

Tūī E Becomes a Pizzeria! 

Tūī E transformed into a busy pizzeria this week as learners became pizza chefs for the day!

After following a simple procedure to create their own delicious mini pizzas, they used the experience to inspire their procedural writing. Having a real-life experience helped learners think carefully about sequencing, using time-order words, and writing clear, detailed instructions.

Here is a glimpse of our budding chefs and some of the fantastic procedural writing they created!

Last Friday, Room 5A celebrated 100 Days at School! 

We had so much fun writing about “When I am 100 years old, I will…” and sharing our funny and creative ideas. After our writing, we created drawings showing what we might look like when we are 100 years old.

Our Senior Kereru Kapa Haka group had a busy start to Term 3, beginning with a Mihi Whakatau to welcome new students and their families, to life at Takapuna Primary School.

The Kereru Kapa Haka group also performed to students and their parents to celebrate Matariki, the beginning of the Maori New Year. 

At the end of the first week, the group performed at a Matariki Kapa Haka Festival at Westlake Boys High School. Our group joined local Primary, Intermediate and High Schools in this inaugural event.

Our Senior Kereru Kapa Haka group worked hard, performed well and represented our school with pride.

Thank you to Sarah O.C, Sammy, and Denise for helping our Senior Kapa Haka group prepare for each performance.

KOS (Keeping Ourselves Safe) –

Parent Information Session

Every two years, as part of our Health programmes, Takapuna Primary works with our local Police Education team to deliver the KOS (Keeping Ourselves Safe) programme to all children in our school.

We have arranged an opportunity for parents to find out more about this programme. This will be held on:

Constable Murray Fenton will lead the parent session.

Kelly Club would like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful TPS community.

We raised around $708 to donate to Cure Kids! 

SCG Quiz Night – Wednesday 2 September

The SCG is excited to invite you to our annual Quiz Night!

Join us on Wednesday 2 September, 7:00pm at the Hauraki Social Club for an evening of fun, laughs, and a little friendly competition.

Tickets are $15.00 per person. Come along with a team, or if you’re coming on your own, we’ll happily match you with a table of other parents.

Tickets will be available through Kindo, or can be purchased outside the school office before and after school on Friday 14 August.

Last year’s event was a fantastic night, with everyone having a great time. We’d love to see you there to meet other parents, enjoy a fun evening out, and support our school community.

SCG Meeting TONIGHT – Everyone Welcome

The SCG will be holding our next meeting TONIGHT (Thursday 6 August) at 7:00pm, in the meeting room at the school office.

We’d love to welcome anyone who is interested in finding out more about what we do. Whether you’re thinking about joining the SCG, would like to help with events like the Quiz Night, or simply want to contribute ideas and get involved, we’d love to have you there.
We’re also busy planning an exciting (and soon-to-be-announced!) fundraiser for the end of the term, so it’s a great time to come along and be part of the planning.

Everyone is welcome – we’d love to see you there!

TPS Schoolwide Cross Country – Friday 14th August – Each class needs a parent helper as a walking guide across to Killarney Park Reserve. We also need Course Marshalls to help direct the runners around the course. If you can help please email your classroom teacher.

TPS Bike Ambassadors – The bike track is open on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes. They ensure all riders are safe on our school bikes and look after the bike track. In Term 3 our Bike schedule is Monday’s- Tui & Kiwi & Thursday’s- Kereru

IN THE OFFICE

Art Room Donation Request 

Our learners are about to begin an exciting stitchery unit in the Art Department, where they will explore a range of textile skills including embroidery, threading, sewing on buttons, and, for some classes, creating sock puppets.

To help make these projects possible, we would greatly appreciate donations of:

• Clean, old socks of any size, colour, or pattern (mismatched socks are perfect!)
• Cotton sewing thread
• Embroidery thread (stranded cotton)
• Spare buttons are also welcome if you have any to share.

Pre-loved materials are ideal, and socks with small holes or signs of wear are absolutely fine, provided they have been washed.

If you have any of these items tucked away at home and no longer need them, we would be very grateful for your donation. Please send them to school(with a note to go to Claire’s room) with your child over the next few weeks.

Thank you for supporting our Art programme and helping our learners develop their creativity, sewing skills, and confidence through hands-on making.

School Donations

 An investment in our students

Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.

Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government. 

The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.

We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.

To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.

Takapuna Primary School Alumni Network needs your help!

TPS recently launched an alumni group on Facebook. We’re just in the beginning stages and we need someone who can assist with the growth of the group by attracting members. The objectives of the TPS Alumni Network are:

• Build a database of TPS alumni
• Develop connections with TPS’s current staff and students
• Enhance current students’ understanding of TPS’s history
• Offer fundraising opportunities for alumni to invest so TPS can continue its high-quality educational standards
• Promote TPS’s brand in the community
• Host alumni events
• Begin the path towards TPS’s 150th reunion in 2029
• Create an online archive of TPS class photos, memorabilia etc.
