Year 5 and 6 students, sharing their learning about fractions and decimals through games! Such an important way to learning Mathematics.

Maths: Making Boxes Investigation
The Kererū C learners recently mathematics investigation exploring volume. Using square sheets of paper, they created open-top boxes by cutting squares from each corner and folding up the sides.
Learners measured the dimensions of their boxes, calculated the volume of each one, and compared their results. They quickly discovered that making the corners larger did not always create a bigger box! Through trial, error, and mathematical thinking, learners investigated how changing the dimensions affected the volume and worked to determine which box would hold the most.
It was fantastic to see everyone collaborating, making predictions, testing their ideas, and calculating and explaining their mathematical reasoning throughout the investigation.

In Art, Room 5B has been developing their stitching skills by creating decorative borders on paper.
They also explored 2D shapes, using a variety of shapes to design creative pictures as part of a collaborative quilt project.
Students enjoyed experimenting with different shapes and patterns, while building their artistic skills and creativity.

Always lovely to see our ex-students, now attending Takapuna Normal Intermediate School coming and visiting their primary school. This is what Gaily had to say about Takapuna Primary:
‘My experiences at TPS have been incredibly rewarding. The collaborative environment fosters creativity, allowing me to engage with diverse perspectives and ideas. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in various projects that challenged my skills while also helping me grow.’
Gaily, Year 7 student at TNIS.

An investment in our students
Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.
Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government.
The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.
We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.
To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.
Any queries regarding payments can be directed to our accounts team: accounts@tps.school.nz
If you would like to know more about how the School Board operates, and/or would be interested in understanding how else you can help, please contact: takapunaboard@tps.school.nz

In 1978, TPS had a lunch room, where students could buy their lunch.
Mum’s would come to school and help make healthy lunches and hand them out to students. They would have salads, sandwiches and fruit!
The lunch room is on the left of the photo.
The building on the right is the old brick building that stood where our Library is today.

The whole school gathered in 1949 for this photograph.
