Principal’s Message

Kia ora whānau,

As we head into the final week of Term 3, we want to welcome you to our very last newsletter for the term! It has been a busy, exciting term, and we are so proud of everything our students have achieved.

This term, our staff have come together to carefully review our breaktime routines, looking at what is working well and identifying key areas for improvement. As we finalise this review before the end of the term, we are planning to trial a new schedule where children head out to play first and eat afterward. We look forward to testing this approach next term to see how it positively impacts our students’ energy, focus, and overall well-being.

With just one week to go until the school holidays, we hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved, restful break. Thank you all for your continued support this term!

Regards, Devika & the TPS team

TPS Fundraiser – Details about tomorrow

COLOUR RUN – THIS FRIDAY!  Friday 18 September 1:30–3:00pm

WHAT TO BRING

Please send your child with:
– OLD WHITE OR LIGHT-COLOURED T-SHIRT
– OLD RUNNING SHOES
– GOGGLES – optional
– TOWEL AND/OR CHANGE OF CLOTHES – recommended as children will get colourful and may get wet!

Please name everything and send items you don’t mind getting colourful.

WHEN IS YOUR CHILD RUNNING?
1:30pm – Kererū classes
Approx. 2:00pm – Tūī classes
Approx. 2:30pm – Kiwi classes

***These times are approximate and may change on the day.

Each group will make its way around the obstacle course and through our sponsored colour stations, with plenty of colour, music and fun along the way!

The event will finish at 3:00pm.

FAMILIES ARE WELCOME TO WATCH
A designated parent viewing area will be set up on the field. We ask that families please remain in this area rather than around the course, concrete or playground areas. This will help us keep the course safe and make end-of-day collection run smoothly.

The Colour Run course is for TPS students only. Parents and siblings are welcome to watch but cannot participate or run alongside the children.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather. A decision on whether the Colour Run will go ahead or be postponed will be made by 2:00pm on Thursday. Families will be notified once a decision has been made.

CAN YOU HELP AFTERWARDS?

Could you spare 30 minutes after school on Friday?

We’d really appreciate a few extra hands to help tidy up, pack away equipment and move some of the heavier items after the event. Contact: scg@tps.school.nz

THERE’S STILL TIME TO FUNDRAISE!
It’s not too late to set up a fundraising page or keep sharing your existing one!

Student Celebrations

This week, Kiwi students have been learning to use adjectives to describe characters.

Maths – Telling the Time

In Room 5B, we have been learning all about telling the time! The children have been practising recognising o’clock, quarter past and half past times and learning about the hour and minute hands.
To help us with our learning, we have also made our own clocks and used them to practice setting different times. We have had lots of fun learning together and are becoming confident little time-tellers!

After Hours Supervision

We are thrilled to keep our school grounds open after 3:00 PM so families and children can enjoy the community space. However, we have noticed a growing number of children left unattended without adult supervision.

Please remember that any children remaining on school grounds after hours must be actively supervised by a parent or adult guardian at all times. Our school staff cannot manage after-hours supervision, safety concerns, or conflict resolution once the school day ends. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Staffing Updates

We are excited to share that Room 6B will be launching in Term 4, co-taught by our wonderful Deputy Principals, Sarah and Denise! Both of them are thrilled to step into this learning space together and bring their energy, experience, and passion directly into the classroom. We know the students in 6B are going to have a fantastic term ahead under their expert guidance.

Life Education

We are so excited to have the Life Education van on school grounds this week and next! This unique experience allows our students to step into a vibrant mobile classroom and work with a specialised Educator alongside their classroom teacher. A massive thank you to all the families who have made a financial contribution to help bring this valuable program to our school—your support ensures our children get to enjoy these engaging, hands-on health and well-being lessons!

HELPING AT Home – Mathematics (Year 3-6)

Click here – Maths Portal for parents

You can use the website to help your child practice what they have learned at school.

  • It is best to work together on the year level your child has just finished at school, not the year they’re about to start.
  • Short, regular sessions will help build confidence with Maths. This can be 10 to 15 minutes sessions, 3 to 5 times a week.
  • After your child completes each question or puzzle, you will see a summary page suggesting next steps.
  • You can use the Maths practice site on your tablet, laptop or phone.

The Maths practice website is a pilot that will run until the end of December 2026 so we can see how useful it is for families.

School Donations

 An investment in our students

Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.

Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government.

The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.

We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.

To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.

Any queries regarding payments can be directed to our accounts team: accounts@tps.school.nz

If you would like to know more about how the School Board operates, and/or would be interested in understanding how else you can help, please contact: takapunaboard@tps.school.nz

IMPORTANT

If your child is LATE (after 8:58am), please make sure they sign in at the office upon arriving at school.

If they are RETURNING to school after an appointment offsite, they MUST sign in at the office BEFORE going to their classroom.

REMEMBER……..

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE ALWAYS HAVE CURRENT PARENT CONTACT DETAILS ON FILE.

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT WE ARE UPDATED IF YOUR CHILD HAS ANY NEW MEDICAL INFORMATION WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF.

If you moved to a new house, changed your mobile phone number or if your child has any NEW medical information we should be aware of, please email office@tps.school.nz
