Tūī Trip to Kelmarna
Our Tūī learners had a fantastic day exploring Kelmarna Community Farm! We loved getting out of the classroom and learning through hands-on experiences about where our food comes from, caring for the environment, and the important role plants, animals and people play in a thriving garden. Our learners showed wonderful curiosity, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. A huge thank you to the Kelmarna team and to our parent helpers who helped make this such a memorable experience!

We were thrilled to welcome Constable Murray Fenton into our classrooms to help deliver the Keeping Ourselves Safe program across the school.
This valuable program focuses on vital abuse prevention skills, teaching our children how to recognize unsafe situations, establish personal boundaries, and build confidence. Crucially, it gives voice to our young people.

We welcome Ashleigh to our school this week, who is teaching in Tūi B (taking over from Marizanne on maternity leave). Ashleigh is well supported in an established team, with Kelly continuing to lead the Tūi team with the support of senior leaders as needed.

I have two boys at TPS, and their education and wellbeing are always at the front of my mind. I’m of Chinese heritage and have called Auckland home for many years. I have over 17 years’ experience in finance across a range of industries, from chartered accounting and telco to non-profit, and now technology and digital services.
I bring a practical, steady approach, and I enjoy helping others succeed by sharing what I know, keeping things running smoothly and making sure decisions are backed by good numbers and good governance.
Outside of work, I love supporting my kids as they grow through their many interests and activities. It’s taught me a lot about what good structure, exposure and encouragement can do for a child. I’d like to play a part in keeping TPS on solid footing. If you see me around school, please feel free to say hello!

TPS has become a special part of our family life, with our children currently in Years 5 and 3. Our whānau is closely connected to the school’s history and I’m active in all aspects of school life, from class trips to coaching netball. I’m passionate about strengthening the sense of trust and connection within our school community and seeing our tamariki thrive within all aspects of their school life.
I have been an HR practitioner for over 15 years where my work has focused on supporting strategic, principled people decisions that strengthen fairness, clarity and success for individuals and organisations. My work is grounded in listening, collaboration and clear communication.
I genuinely want to contribute to a school where our tamariki feel safe, confident and excited to learn – and where whānau feel connected, informed, and part of the journey. Keeping people at the heart of decisions is what I do every day, and it’s what I hope to bring to this role.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our SCG Quiz Night last night! We hope you all had as much fun as we did. There were plenty of laughs, some very competitive moments, and lots of great new connections made throughout the evening.

COLOUR RUN UPDATE!
WE’RE ALREADY AT $7,696
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has signed up for the Colour Run and started fundraising. We’re off to an amazing start, with $7,556 already raised towards our $20,000 goal!
Our goal is to raise enough money to install new water fountains around the school, so every dollar makes a difference.
THE CLASSROOM RACE IS ON!
Kererū C is currently leading the fundraising competition, with 5B close behind!
But there’s still plenty of time for the leaderboard to change. Every classroom is still in the running!

HELPING AT Home – Mathematics (Year 3-6)

You can use the website to help your child practice what they have learned at school.
- It is best to work together on the year level your child has just finished at school, not the year they’re about to start.
- Short, regular sessions will help build confidence with Maths. This can be 10 to 15 minutes sessions, 3 to 5 times a week.
- After your child completes each question or puzzle, you will see a summary page suggesting next steps.
- You can use the Maths practice site on your tablet, laptop or phone.
The Maths practice website is a pilot that will run until the end of December 2026 so we can see how useful it is for families.

TPS Run Club Wednesday 8th (wk 8-10). All runners need to meet at 8:00am by the blue gates on Collins Street. A reminder that this is a ‘run club’ and not walking the full course. Registrations are Here
North Harbour Basketball Semester 2- last game 28th/29th October Plays offs 11th/12th and 18th/19th November.
Clusters Cross Country is on Friday 4th September, good luck to our 24 TPS runners.
Takapuna Tipu Football Tournament was held at our TFC and four TPS teams competed in a competitive 7 aside tournament. All teams displayed great sportsmanship and skills, big thank you to Claudia, Lyn, Beata and Margaret for your support.
Rippa Rugby Tournament
The weather played its part and TPS was well represented at the annual North Harbour Rippa day. Lots of running, passing and tries and players having fun. Thank you to our coaches Sarah, Lizzy and Claudia and all the volunteer drivers.

Did you know that bottle tops and container lids can no longer be recycled in your curbside bins?
But the good news is, they can still be recycled and our school is a collection point!

An investment in our students
Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.
Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government.
The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.
We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.
To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.

TPS recently launched an alumni group on Facebook. We’re just in the beginning stages and we need someone who can assist with the growth of the group by attracting members. The objectives of the TPS Alumni Network are:
- Build a database of TPS alumni
- Develop connections with TPS’s current staff and students
- Enhance current students’ understanding of TPS’s history
- Offer fundraising opportunities for alumni to invest so TPS can continue its high-quality educational standards
- Promote TPS’s brand in the community
- Host alumni events
- Begin the path towards TPS’s 150th reunion in 2029
- Create an online archive of TPS class photos, memorabilia etc.
