Year 6 Student Leadership Day
Our student leaders recently joined forces with local schools for an action-packed leadership summit. Facilitators from Burn Bright kicked off the day with a giant “doughnut” icebreaker focused on connecting with kindness. STEAM specialist Jo Rea then challenged the students to become digital leaders by navigating the growth of AI and practicing safe online habits. Finally, Year 13 Westlake Boys High School prefects ran a tricky “human knot” activity, pushing everyone to collaborate and rethink what truly makes a great leader.

Pink Shirt Day
Our school turned into a sea of vibrant pink last Friday as we celebrated Pink Shirt Day! It was fantastic to see our students and staff stand together to support this important national movement. This year’s campaign, Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying, gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk about kindness.

Break Time Fun: Lego Club!
|
We are always looking for exciting ways to keep our students engaged, creative, and connected during their break, and our Lego Club has been a massive hit!
Offered as one of our many break time options, Lego Club gives students a fantastic space to let their imaginations run wild. Whether they are building towering skyscrapers, designing futuristic vehicles, or working together on massive collaborative structures, the creativity in the room is awesome to see.
Beyond just being incredibly fun, Lego Club is a wonderful way for students across different year levels to interact, practice problem-solving, and develop teamwork skills in a relaxed environment.

On behalf of the School Board we are seeking YOUR support in helping the school achieve the next set of goals so we can continue to provide excellent outcomes for all our students.
We have a strong and committed Board, however we require some additional horsepower. Due to an international opportunity we will soon be losing one board member and we are also looking to create co-op opportunities to assist with a number of projects and initiatives.
These projects include but are not limited to:
- Alumni: Leading the preparation for our 2029 ‘150th!!’ school reunion.
- Marketing: Creating and Enhancing a school social presence.
- Legal: Legal related support across Board committees & projects.
- Te Ao Māori: Consulting on cultural engagement & uplift and ensuring Māori voice is heard.
- Grants Specialist: Working to obtain additional school funding.
If you, extended family (or friends) have skills and/or interest in these areas or the School Board more genuinely, we would love the opportunity to chat. It’s a brilliant way to volunteer with your school, gain governance experience and give back to your community.
We are mindful that time is often constrained, so options do exist to either join as a Board Member, or simply support a committee on a distinct piece of work. At the end of the day it’s all about ensuring great outcomes for our learners.
Please email the TPS Board at takapunaboard@tps.school.nz with any questions or interest.

SCG : Disco
Our recent school disco was a wonderful event filled with energy, excitement and plenty of smiling faces. It was fantastic to see our school community come together to create such a memorable evening for the children. From the music and games to the glow shop and dance floor, the atmosphere was buzzing from start to finish.
Events like these not only provide our tamariki with fun childhood memories, but also help raise valuable funds for future school projects and initiatives that benefit all students. Every ticket purchased, snack sold and volunteer hour given contributes directly back to our school community.
A huge thank you goes to the incredible teachers, student helpers, SCG members and parent volunteers who made the evening possible. Whether you helped set up, supervised activities, sold food, applied tattoos, managed games, packed down or simply brought enthusiasm and encouragement, your support was invaluable. Events of this scale truly could not happen without the generosity of people willing to give their time and energy.
We would also like to acknowledge the amazing spirit shown by our students throughout the evening. Seeing everyone dressed up, dancing, laughing and enjoying themselves was a wonderful reminder of how special our school community is.
|
Planning is already underway for our next disco in Term 4, and we would love to welcome some new faces to the team. If you have ideas, skills to share, or would simply like to be involved in helping create another fantastic event, please get in touch with the SCG at scg@tps.school.nz
Every helping hand makes a difference, and we would love to hear from you.

An investment in our students
Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.
Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government.
The school donation for 2026 is $260 per student, or $420 for families with two or more students.
We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $260 donation you receive $86 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is just $174.
To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on ‘Student Billing’. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.
Any queries regarding payments can be directed to our accounts team: accounts@tps.school.nz
If you would like to know more about how the School Board operates, and/or would be interested in understanding how else you can help, please contact: takapunaboard@tps.school.nz

Parenting can feel a bit like detective work sometimes!
One minute tamariki seem absolutely fine… and the next there are tears, frustration, shutdowns, big reactions, or behaviour that leaves adults wondering, “What on earth is going on here?”
This week’s ready-to-use parent resource introduces a simple HOLT check-in that can help whānau pause and consider what might be contributing to their child feeling overwhelmed or dysregulated:
– Hungry – Overstimulated – Lonely – Tired
It’s not about overanalysing every emotion or wading in to fix things. It’s simply a gentle reminder that behaviour is often easier to understand when we look at the wider picture of what our children might be carrying physically, emotionally, or socially.
