Principal’s Message:
As Term 2 draws to a close, we reflect on a period filled with significant learning and growth. Our students have engaged in a diverse range of activities, both inside and outside the classroom, demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm. We wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to an exciting Term 3.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: Written Reports
As you are aware, we are currently changing from the old (2007) to the new curriculum (2025) in English and Mathematics. The Ministry of Education wishes to acknowledge that schools will only have been using the new curriculum from the start of 2025. As this is the first time our teachers are using it, they are still becoming familiar with the content and how best to deliver it in the classroom.
Because of this, writing mid-point reports is a little more challenging than usual. You may see a change in your child’s progress or achievement compared to previous years, which may be the result of changes in the curriculum expectations for your child’s year level. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s achievement, we strongly encourage you to talk with your child’s teacher. They will have used their own observations, classroom tasks and other assessments to report on the progress your child has made so far.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we make this transition.
Upcoming: Mid-Year Reports on Hero!
On Thursday, your child’s written report will be published on Hero. This report provides a valuable update on their learning journey so far.
You’ll find comments detailing their progress in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, along with a brief general comment about their overall development. Additionally, you’ll also see comments on their learning in Te Ao Māori, STEM/Music and ESOL lessons (if your child is taught by Tash Giles).
Each report will include an overall mid-point teacher judgment for each subject. You’ll see one of the following statements, indicating your child’s progress relative to end-of-year expectations:
- On track to meet the end-of-year expectations
- Not yet making the expected progress
- Likely to achieve beyond the end-of-year expectations
Please note that the Ministry of Education is still finalising the exact wording for end-of-year descriptors, so these statements may be adjusted slightly for the final report.
SAVE THE DATE: Parent Curriculum Information evening: Monday 21 July @6:00pm
We are pleased to invite you to a dedicated Parent Information evening at the start of Term 3. This is an important opportunity to learn about the key differences and exciting changes in our curriculum.
Strategically placed between the release of written reports and our upcoming 1:1 parent conferences (later in Term 3) this evening is designed to provide you with additional information. We hope it will offer clarity and deeper insights for all parents keen to understand how these updates will shape your child’s education.
Further details will be shared after the school holidays. Please add the date to your calendars.
Property update: Removal of Prefabs
We are making great progress with the first stage of the pre-fab removal. This stage should be completed by the end of the school holidays. The project is being overseen by the Ministry of Education.
The next stage will be resurfacing the area to make it usable again! We hope to see the Killarney Street car park re opened again for Term 3.

A Matariki to remember!
What a truly wonderful Matariki week we shared last week! Our children had a fantastic time engaging in a range of activities throughout the week, embracing the spirit of the Māori New Year.
A special highlight was our Tuesday afternoon whānau event, where it was absolutely lovely to see so many of our families come together. You came to join in with your children in engaging activities and enthusiastically supported our tamariki during their incredible Kapa Haka performances. Weren’t they simply wonderful?
A huge thank you to everyone who donated kai (food) to share after school – your generosity added to the communal atmosphere. It was so great to see our TPS community come together in such a vibrant way. And finally, a big thank you to our dedicated teaching team for staying behind and setting up all the fantastic Matariki activities. Your efforts made the week special for everyone!

School visit from Helen Walls
Recently, we welcomed Dr Helen Walls, a leading NZ educator, to our kura. Helen is a professional learning facilitator and educational researcher, with twenty years’ experience working in schools. Following on from our professional learning sessions with Helen in Term 1 and team meetings earlier this term, Helen spent two days with us, visiting many of our classrooms across the school. She modelled the teaching of writing with teachers released to observe her in action. Helen said that she really enjoyed her time with us and was impressed by the high calibre of writing already evidenced at our kura.
Wet Day Games:
Thank you very much to all those who generously donated wet day games and activities for our learners to enjoy. I am sure they will love to use these on days when outside play is not possible.
