Principal’s Message
Tēnā koutou,
This term is always a sprint to the finish, filled with special events, presentations, and vital learning wrap ups. We encourage all parents to continue reinforcing consistent routines at home, especially getting adequate sleep and keeping up with good nutrition to help your children manage the excitement and demands of these last few weeks. We’re always grateful to hear from you and your feedback is so valuable for our teachers and school. Here is something we have received from one of our families:
“Devika, thank you for all that you do for the school. Your leadership has created such a warm, nurturing environment, and we feel so fortunate to be part of this community. We really couldn’t ask for a better school.”
Parent of Year 4 student.
Playground update: nearly ready!
Great news! The playground installation is nearly finished, with only one final check and the placement of some last pieces remaining.
We are hopeful that the playground will be signed off by the end of this week, meaning we anticipate it will be ready to open early next week!
Who gets to use it first?
- We will initially invite our senior learners to enjoy the new space.
- The playground has been specifically designed to challenge them.
- We’re especially excited for our Year 6 students to use it, as they won’t have too much longer to enjoy the playground during school time before they graduate.
Lunchtime Basketball coaching:
We’re excited to announce a new initiative for our senior students! We’ve utilised some of our school funding to bring in expert coaches from Kelly Sports to run specialised lunchtime sessions.
This week, the focus is on basketball, with coaches running skill-building sessions for our Year 5 and 6 students. This is a great opportunity for them to develop their game, learn new techniques, and stay active during lunch break!

Community Connection: supporting Takapuna Kindy’s Wheelathon
We were delighted to recently support our local early learning partners at Takapuna Kindergarten by hosting their annual Kindy Wheelathon event on our school grounds.
We were thrilled to receive this lovely feedback from Kim, the Head Teacher:
“I just wanted to say thank you so much for your support for our recent Kindy Wheelathon. All of our attendees commented on what a great venue Takapuna Primary was and how good the school is looking.”
It is wonderful to be able to share our facilities and help foster strong ties within the local Takapuna community. We look forward to continuing to support our local Kindergarten!
Notification: scheduled filming
We are excited to announce that we have scheduled a professional camera crew to visit our school this Friday 21 November to capture footage for a new school video, as well as general photography.
This short, professional video will be added to our website to give prospective families and the wider community a glimpse of the great things happening at TPS. We’re delighted to work with one our own TPS parents and her fantastic team.
Filming details:
- Time: 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Location: Onsite at TPS (general school grounds, classrooms, and activities)
Consent and safety:
We want to reassure you of our processes regarding student privacy:
- General Footage: The crew will be capturing general scenes and activities around the school.
- Close-Ups: For any specific close-up shots involving individual students, we will seek final parental permission before the footage is published.
- Prior Consent: We will strictly ensure that no student for whom we have a prior zero photo/filming consent on file, will have their image published.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the scheduled filming, please do not hesitate to contact Devika (devikat@tps.school.nz) directly.
Thank you for your continued support as we showcase our wonderful school community.
Reminder about changes to class placements for 2026: building resilience and growth
The school is changing its class structure for the 2026 school year, transitioning from the previous two year model to an annual move to a new class and new teacher for all students. This shift is designed to maximise student growth by building resilience, fostering wider relationships with more teachers, offering a fresh start for new friendships and ensuring exposure to diverse teaching expertise.
Classes will be randomly generated in a balanced way and will be finalised in Term 4, with students meeting their new teachers on Monday 15 December.
We understand that change can sometimes cause anxiety for both children and parents, and we are committed to making this transiton as smooth as possible. If there is something specific you wish to discuss (we do not accommodate teacher choices), please do contact me directly – devikat@tps.school.nz

Each term, the whole school community is invited to review and comment on specific policies and procedures. This feedback is captured using the review button on topics that are under review. The review topics for each term are listed on the Current Review and Review Instructions page.
