Principal’s Message:

What a fantastic turnout we had at our open session on Tuesday morning! The place was buzzing with energy, and it was truly wonderful to see so many families able to attend. The children were clearly thrilled to share their learning with you all!

IMPORTANT DETAILS : TEMPORARY CHANGES TO CAR PARKING

Exciting changes are underway at our school! You’ll notice the scheduled removal of the empty building next to the sandpit has begun, and will continue for approximately three weeks.

This first stage involves removing the building and some minor ground works. Following this, we will resurface the area to create an additional play space for our students!

Throughout the work, temporary fencing will surround the building and parts of the playground to ensure safety. We kindly ask for your support in encouraging students to avoid this area.

Please also note that the Killarney Street parking situation will be affected. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important work to enhance our school environment.

Celebrate Matariki!

When: Tuesday 17th June

Time: 2:40 PM – 4:30 PM

What’s Happening:

  • 2:45 PM: Kapa Haka groups perform (outside the hall, or inside the hall if wet)
  • 3:00 PM: Shared kai (potluck meal) outside Rooms 1-4
    • Please bring a plate of food to share! (You can drop off your plate at the office in the morning.)
  • 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM: Classroom Activities
    • Enjoy hands-on Matariki activities suitable for everyone!

Important notes for Whānau: All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event.

Wet Day Games: donations needed

We’re on the hunt for some wet weather lunchtime activities to keep our tamariki engaged and entertained indoors!

If you’re able to help, we’d greatly appreciate donations of the following items:

  • Board Games: Think classics like Guess Who, Go Fish, Hedbanz, Snakes and Ladders, Chess, and Playing Cards.
  • Specialty Stationery: Colouring pens and felts to spark creativity.
  • Craft Supplies: Paper, stencils, and construction materials like car or train tracks for imaginative play.

*Please drop off any donations at the office.

Thank you for your support in making our indoor lunchtimes just as fun as our outdoor ones!

Spotlight learners:  Well done Clara from Tui B!

Clara has been learning how to use describing words in her writing to make it more fun and exciting for her readers. Also, she has been learning to think, write, and check her writing as she tries to make her stories even better!

School and Community News:

A splash-tastic thank you from the Under the Sea Disco!

A huge thank you to our incredible school community for making the “Under the Sea” Disco an absolutely fin-tastic success! Your support, enthusiasm, and dazzling costumes helped us create a truly memorable evening for our students. Thanks to your generosity. We raised over $3,000 for this event!

Our prize table was emptied and the candy table sold out so any donations for the next Disco would be greatly appreciated. Please email scg@tps.school.nz. We are so grateful for your continued dedication to our school. Events like these wouldn’t be possible without you!

A huge thank you to Bakers Delight, The Warehouse, Pak n Save, HD Building Services Ltd www.hdbuild.co.nz, Beauty Clique and parents for supplying products for the Disco.

SCHOOL DONATIONS – an investment in our students

Our mission at Takapuna Primary School is to deliver a great quality learning environment that supports a quality education. To support this, we are seeking your help.

Your school donations make a very real difference to us as a state-funded public school. Our basic costs are met by the Ministry of Education, but it’s the money we receive from our school community that really allows us to provide opportunities, equipment and teaching beyond what is funded by the government. As an example, we would like to undertake further enhancements including sun shades, and also to enable wet weather use. This funding is therefore so important in providing a high-quality learning environment (both in and out of the classroom).

The school donation for 2025 is $250 per student, or $400 for families with two or more students. We can arrange weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments via internet banking if this helps spread the cost. Importantly, donations are tax deductible so approximately one third of every donation can be claimed back as a tax credit. That means for a $250 donation you receive $83 back in your wallet. Your actual donation cost is $167.

To make your donation payments please go to the ‘Hero’ app and click on the ‘Finance’ tab. Alternatively, any payments can also be made directly into the school bank account 12 3026 0792484 00 – if doing so, please ensure you include your child’s name and ‘donation’ as reference on the payment.

We do understand these are uncertain times and managing financial priorities can be difficult for some families.

Any queries regarding payments can be directed to our accounts team: accounts@tps.school.nz

If you would like to know more about how the School Board operates and/or would be interested in understanding how else you can help, please contact: takapunaboard@tps.school.nz

Thanks so much for helping to support our growing and vibrant community.

Kindest regards

Takapuna Primary School Board

History of Takapuna Primary School

(since 1879)

The small building on the field used to be where the ‘school dental nurse’ worked. This photo was taken in the 1970’s. The dental nurse was at school everyday. She called up students one at a time to check that they were looking after their teeth and brushing them twice a day!

This is a photo of the school lunchroom, taken in the 1970’s. Back then lunches were not delivered to school, Mum’s kindly offered to come to school and make sandwiches, warm up pies and sausage rolls and cut up cakes.

MATHS CORNER

Here are some example questions you could discuss when shopping with your child:

How many different shapes can you see as you walk through the supermarket?
What is the cheapest/dearest brand?
How many types of green vegetables/other can you see?
How many different shaped packaging can the same type of product come in?
How long do you think shopping will take? (everyone guesses)
How much do you think the shopping will cost? (everyone guesses/estimates)
How much money have we saved?
What was the biggest/smallest discount we got?
Which item is the best value for money?
