Takapuna Primary School opened in 1879 and celebrated its 125th reunion on November 6th, 2004. A tangible link to the schools rich history, the Memorial Gates at the Anzac Street entrance, honour those who served in the Great War of 1914 – 1918. In 2015 we held a rededication ceremony of the Memorial Gates as part of the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day and every year we continue the tradition of students and staff proudly taking part in the Takapuna Anzac Parade. Takapuna Primary is a Decile 8 contributing school catering for students in Years 1 – 6 located in the centre of the Takapuna business area a stone’s throw from Lake Pupuke and a short stroll to Takapuna Beach. Our enrolment scheme was reinstated at the end of 2014. The roll at the end of 2017 was 520 students including 15 International Students (59% living in zone and 41% living out of zone) and the school proudly celebrates diversity with over 56 different nationalities. The major ethnic groups are as follows:- NZ European/Pakeha 35%, Māori 10%, Pasifika 4% (Samoan 1%, Fijian 1%, Niuean 1%, Tongan 2%) Chinese 15%, Korean 7%, Other European 6%, Indian 4%, Filipino 4%, Middle Eastern 3%, Other Asian 2%, Latin American 2%, African 1%, British/Irish 1%, Australian 1% and other groups less than 1% - Japanese, Other South East Asian, Sri Lankan, Vietnamese and Italian.
